Nollywood actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot, has been re-elected into the Surulere constituency l Lagos State House of Assembly election.
Elliot who is also a film director, took to his Instagram page to celebrate his victory, thanking his fans and supporters for getting him back into the House.
In his speech, he apologized to those he has hurt and also promised to do his best.
He wrote: “Thank you , Thank you ,Thank you Surulere, Surulerians, Everyone . Thank you for giving me another opportunity to serve . I promise to be better and give more than my best to make you proud .
To those I may have hurt , offended ,knowingly or unknowingly pissed off, ahh to those who can NEVER see anything good in me, I’m very sorry. I dedicate this victory to God Almighty. To the memory of my Late Father Engr Emmanuel Elliott. My late Step mum . I dedicate this to all SURULERIANS you made it happen .. again .
The news of his victory comes after unconfirmed sources revealed he managed to escape unhurt after hoodlums attacked the vehicle he was riding in to his polling unit in Surulere, Lagos state, where he was meant to cast his vote on Saturday, March 9.
In the result announced earlier this morning, he scored 15,357 votes, while Benjamin Olasunkanmi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 3,628 votes.
The State Constituency Returning Officer, Dr Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi from the University of Lagos, made the declaration at the Surulere Local Government Collation Centre in Lagos.
“Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected.”
The 45-year-old was first elected into the Lagos House of Assembly in 2015. Elliot was educated at Air Force Primary School and St John’s College, both in Jos. He later studied economics at Lagos State University and graduated in 2003.
We keep evolving to serve our readers better. Recall a while back, the Nollywood actor faced backlash for building a public toilet for his constituents in Surulere where he is representing at the Lagos state House of Assembly.
Rather than being praised for the completion of the project, the actor and movie director has been receiving knocks and backlash from people who think the project is a slap on the face of his constituent.
