Babajide Sanwo-olu, the Lagos state candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the ongoing governorship election, on Saturday, March 9, declared that the election is not a do or die affair.
Sanwo-olu who made this known while addressing journalists after casting his vote at the polling unit 19 in Okunnu, Lateef Jakande Avenue, Ikoyi area of the state, said Nigerians seeking elective offices should put the people first.
According to the Continentour.com.ng reporter present at the polling unit, Sanwo-olu who voted at about to 11am noted that the election has gone peacefully so far, even though there have been reports of card readers in some parts of the state.
He said: “Generally, it has been very peaceful, people are managing the issues. We had a card reader issue here and it was resolved.”
On if he was confident of victory, he explained how he picked up the nomination ticket exactly six months ago and how he’s voting six months later.
The governorship candidate added: “I believe it’s some form of divinity, and we have also done enough to earn the confidence of the people. We have gone everywhere and we have done everything needed to be done.”
On whether or not he’ll accept the outcome of the election, the governorship candidate said:
“In itself, it’s about people, it’s not about you. If in truth, what you stand for is to govern people, the decision is left for them. Whatever comes out is what people have said and that’s what I’m about.”
Earlier, Continentour.com.ng reported that a suspected supporter of the PDP on Saturday morning, March 9, threatened to stab an agent of the APC at the polling unit 19, Okunnu, Lateef Jakande road, Eti-Osa local government area, where Babajide Sanwo-olu, the APC candidate will cast his vote.
The polling unit, trouble began when the man, a friend of the PDP party agent, moved towards the direction of the party agents in defense of his friend whom he perceived to be in distress.
During the ensuing exchange of words, the friend to the PDP agent told the APC agent that he would dagger him. The APC agent consequently raised his voice, asking that the man who threatened him identified himself.
