HOW FFP COULD MAKE MANCHESTER CITY LOOSE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPOT TO UNITED, CHELSEA OR ARSENAL

Manchester City Financial Fair Play row with Europe’s football governing body, UEFA, could likely see the fifth-place team at the end of the campaign play in the Champions League next term.

The Sun claim the latest development will see the quartet of Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea fight to the finish in a bid to make the cut.

On the other hand, Man City chiefs are keen to prove their innocence despite UEFA officially commencing a probe on Thursday, March 8.

But sources at Europe’s governing body revealed earlier that City will be handed a “sporting sanctions” depending on the gravity if found guilty of faulting FFP rules for a second time.

Speaking on the issue back in January ex- Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, who also doubles as head of the Club Financial Control Body, hinted that UEFA will go hard on City if truly they did not respect the rule.

“If what has been written about Manchester City is true, this can lead to the heaviest punishment – exclusion from UEFA competitions.”

Thus a ban for City would see their position taken over by the next team on the log. A further breakdown revealed that where the fifth team gets would £30m for Europa League run, they would be assured of £50m and £60m for the Champions League.

City on their part are ready to face UEFA’s probe after confirming its importance.

Manchester City welcomes the opening of a formal UEFA investigation as an opportunity to bring to an end the speculation resulting from the illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails.

The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false. The Club’s published accounts are full and complete and a matter of legal and regulatory record,” the club submitted.

Earlier, Continentour.com.ng reported that Manchester City risk being banned for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

The Citizens are said to have hidden in funding to escape beat UEFA laid down rules guiding players transfer. SunSport quoting UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin insisted that the Etihad Stadium outfit will soon learn the punishment that will be meted out to them.
