With the twilight of his administration as the governor of Oyo state closely beckoning, Abiola Ajimobi’s hope of becoming a senator representing Oyo South senatorial district has also been dashed with a defeat to Kola Balogun of PDP.
Tribune report claimed that in the February 23 National Assembly election held in the state, Ajimobi was beaten to second by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Balogun, who polled 105,720 votes.
Continentour.com.ng gathers that the returning officer for Oyo south Senatorial district, Prof Wole Akinsola, said Ajimobi scored a total number of 92,218 to displace Senator Soji Akanbi, who polled 49,437 votes to third position.
Recall that the serving senator Soji Akanbi, contested on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), after being forced out of APC by the governor, who reportedly ”imposed” himself as the APC candidate in the senatorial district.
Meanwhile, Continentour.com.ng previously reported that Senate president, Bukola Saraki, had lost his bid for re-election into the Senate from Kwara Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Saraki lost to Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s February 23 senatorial election.
