Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus last season and according to ex-Real Madrid president, the Portuguese star left because the club wanted to sign Neymar.
It is not the first time Ronaldo had threatened to leave club – in 2016 the former Manchester United winger claimed Los Blancos did not support him during his tax evasion case.
Then, despite the conflict between the club and player, the 34-year-old went on to win two more Champions League titles for the Bernabeu side and asked for an increased salary.
His third successive win at the elite competition was followed by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner making a crucial decision in his career at Madrid.
And Ronaldo ended his nine-year romance with the Spanish giants leaving for Turin to join Juventus for a fee to be around £90 million Now ex-Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has opened up on two reasons why Ronaldo left.
Speaking to Radio Villa, Calderon said:
“Cristiano asked for a raise after winning the Champions League and Florentino denied it. “Cristiano also got angry because he heard that Madrid would be willing to pay a lot of money for Neymar.
“Florentino told him that if he brought in a cheque for €100m he would let him go and that’s how it was.”
Calderon signed Ronaldo, and not Florentino Perez, and the former president explained the current president does not like the idea.
“Florentino did not accept that Cristiano was a signing of mine. I don’t deny that he has been a great president, but he does not accept well the inheritances that he receives.
“The same thing happened to him with [Iker] Casillas, Raul, [Arjen] Robben and [Wesley] Sneijder.”
Meanwhile, Continentour.com.ng had earlier reported that Real Madrid fans have come out of their shell calling for Florentino Perez resignation during Wednesday’s Copa del Rey last 16 first leg with Leganes.
Despite recording a 3-0 win, their first in the New Year, Los Blancos faithfuls are still not happy with the situation of their club this season.
