There seems to be a major crisis in the Kogi state government as Chief Simon Achuba, the deputy governor, has reportedly raised an alarm saying his life was threatened and that his security aides had been withdrawn.

Achuba, on Sunday, February 17, at his residence in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, claimed that the commissioner of police in Kogi state, Busari Hakeem, withdrew his aides.

Daily Independent reports that the deputy governor spoke with journalists lamenting that his security details including his ADC were ordered to report to Government House on the February 15, for briefing on the same day he was to travel home.

Achuba said when the ADC got to the Government House, he was accused of gun running after a security aide to the governor took him and others to the SARS office to make statement.

They accused my ADC and orderly of gunrunning but they denied the allegation. As I’m speaking now they are under detention in Government House.

I informed the commissioner of police on the situation but till now he has refused to take any action.

I’m a member of the All Progressives Congress. I reported to the national leader of the APC. My impress has been stopped for no any reason by the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

“I live as deputy governor in the house without security, I travelled home without police, my life is in danger,” he reportedly lamented.

Apart from this, he said the electricity and water connections to his official residence had been cut off by the state government and he presently lives in darkness.

He pleaded with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to prevail on the commissioner of police and call him to order so that his security details can be restored back.

The report said the commissioner of police confirmed the story when he was contacted, saying the deputy governor sent a message to his office.

He reportedly promised to make arrangement for two police officers to be posted to his house. He also assured that the issue would be resolved soon.

Continentour.com.ng earlier reported that Mustapha Mona Audu, the 37-year-old son of a former governor in Kogi, late Abubakar Audu, recently declared his intention slug it out with Yahaya Bello, the current leader of the state in the battle for the Lugard House in 2020.

It was learnt that Mustapha Audu is the sixth son of late Abubakar Audu who governed the state from January 1992 to November 1993 and from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2003.

An attempt to return as governor in 2016 did not yield positive result as Abubakar Audu died after casting his vote and just before the full election result would be announced. Yahaya Bello later emerged.
