Wissam Ben Yedder wears a shirt with a message for missing Argentine striker Emiliano Sala after the Copa Del Rey match between Sevilla FC and FC Barcelona at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Pablo Sarabia and Ben Yedder netted two second half goals, as Sevilla claimed a 2-0 win in the first leg of their quarter-final clash at the Estadio Ramon on Wednesday, January 23.
The former Toulouse striker’s message on his shirt read:
“For my brother, strength.” Ben Yedder also took to social media to share his thought on the recent tragic event and to show support for Cardiff’s record signing.
“In my heart and in my prayers,” Ben Yedder posted on Twitter.
“I think of you, Emi,” he emotionally penned.
Sala signed for Cardiff City from FC Nantes on Saturday, January 19, and was on his way to bolster Neil Warnock’s squad in England’s topflight when the plane was reported missing.
Chances of finding Sala alive is slim according to BBC reports, with officials saying that is was more of a recovery than rescue mission at this point.
Sala’s plane lost contact off Alderney in the Channel Islands on Monday night.
The search for the missing aircraft and its occupants resumed on Wednesday, January 23, however chief officer of Channel Islands Air Search, John Fitzgerald said Sala was likely gone.
“Even the most fit person would only last a few hours in the water,” chief officer of Channel Islands Air Search, John Fitzgerald said.
Guernsey Police department will confirm on Thursday, January 24, if the search mission for the pilot and Sala will commence.
