A Lagos monarch, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, has declared his resolution to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the general elections even though he argued that all candidates of other parties in the state remain his children.
Oba Shotobi made the declaration in his palace on Saturday, January 19, when he hosted Sanai Agunbiade, a member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, and his supporters.
The respected monarch also noted the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a successful election in 2019 as the electoral umpire told some royal fathers recently.
Oba Shotobi pleaded with politicians to be mindful that the unity and progress of the country remain paramount warning that they should campaign without bitterness against their opponents or resort to threatening the peace of the nation.
“The politicians should know that we are all one and have no other country. They should be peaceful. It is not a do-or-die affair. If you don’t win today, you can win tomorrow.
“Campaign and show your manifesto and if they believe in you, they will vote for you. There is no need trying to buy voters cards.
“I was at INEC a few days ago and I promised that Ikorodu will be peaceful. INEC also said they are ready and the welfare of their staff will be adequately taken care of.
“I believe in the capability of INEC to conduct this election and I have said there would be not be cases of stolen PVCs or vote buying in my domain,” he said while pleading with Lagosians to ensure they come out and cast their votes during the exercise.
While pleading with those who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so before the election, he explained that he decided to endorse Agunbiade for a fourth term because even as the majority leader of the House, he had never been found wanting.
On his part, Agunbiade said he was not through with the dreams he has for Ikorodu constituency 1.
Noting that some people in the constituency found it strange that he was contesting for the fourth term, Agunbiade said this might be borne out of the fact that there are Nigerians who do understand legislative duties.
He, however, expressed belief that he would win because he now has the support of some of these who initially opposed him.
“This is where I live and you can see the crowd despite the fact that some leaders have travelled to Ibadan, Oyo state for our south west meeting. Some of those that are contesting against me have been doing so since 2007.
“They thought I manipulated the process, I said that it was not about manipulation, that it is a conviction.
“I told them I am not the only lawmaker that wants to go to the assembly for the fourth term.
There are five of us, Hon Ibrahim Layode, Hon Rotimo Olowo, Hon Rotimi Abiru, Hon Moshood Oshun and myself,” he said.
Continentour.com.ng earlier reported that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, recently asked the residents to reject PDP slavery mentality that it represent saying the state is not under bondage.
