BREAKING: BORNO DECLARES PUBLIC HOLIDAY AS BUHARI TAKES CAMPAIGN TO THE STATE

The government of Borno state, on Sunday, January 20, declared Monday, January 21, a public holiday to enable the government and residents welcome President Muhammadu Buhari who would be visiting with his campaign train.

Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking re-election and would be going to Borno to campaign.

Television Continental reports that the government declared the one-day public holiday to “enable all the good people of Borno state, including workers in both the public and private sectors as well as students to, as usual, troop out in large numbers to welcome Mr President to the state.”

Continentour.com.ng earlier reported that residents of Yobe are reportedly in high spirit as Damaturu, the state’s capital is said to be wearing a new look ahead of Buhari’s visit.

The report stated that some streets were cleaned, while the Damaturu stadium, venue of the campaign was given a facelift.

On Sunday, January 2, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau described Saturday’s mammoth crowd in the state at inauguration of the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari as an automatic endorsement of his candidature by people of the state.

Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was in Jos on Saturday, January 19, in continuation of his nationwide campaign for the February 16 general elections.

The Rwang Pam Township Stadium, venue of the event, was jam-packed by ecstatic party supporters, who kept hailing the man they love and admire so much.

So much was the surge that the President could not eventually address the crowd.

However, Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, declared same Sunday, January 20, that President Muhammadu Buhari will return to Daura, his home town in Katsina state, if the 2019 presidential election is free, fair, peaceful and credible.

Obasanjo made this declaration when he addressed journalists at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The former ECOWAS chairman whose address did not last more than eight minutes, simply gave out a booklet titled ‘Points for concern and action’ and asked the journalists present to go through it.

Obasanjo also criticised President Muhammadu Buhari, likening the latter to Nigeria’s former head of state, late General Sani Abacha.

The former president stated this on Sunday, January 20, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, where he addressed journalists.

Obansanjo said among others: “What is happening under Buhari’s watch can be likened to what we witnessed under Gen. Sani Abacha in many ways.”

When Abacha decided that he must install himself as Nigerian president by all means and at all costs, he went for broke and surrounded himself with hatchet men who on his order and in his interest and at high costs to Nigeria and Nigerians tortured and killed for Abacha.

Buhari has started on the same path in mad desperation.”
