French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, have been dealt with a huge injury blow in Marco Verratti ahead of the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash against Manchester United scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, at Old Trafford.
Verratti suffered a horrific injury during his side’s 9-0 comfortable victory against Guingamp as they opened a 10-point lead over second-placed Lille.
Confirming the extent of the injury, PSG boss, Thomas Tuchel, revealed Verratti sustained a ‘very serious’ ankle injury.
“No good news,” Goal.com quoted Tuchel after the match.
“He’s seriously injured. It’s the worst thing that could have happened to us,” he added.
The central midfielder went down after a challenge from Felix Eboa in the first half of the encounter, and had be helped off the pitch by medical staff.
The Italian was later sent to hospital for further examination as he was pictured departing down the tunnel clutching his left boot.
His injury now adds to PSG’s woes in the midfield, with club captain Thiago Silva previously calling for reinforcements.
Verratti is understood to be the man keeping PSG ticking over in the middle of the park and up until his injury, he was the only recognised formidable central midfielder available for selection.
Adrien Rabiot could have stepped in as Verratti’s replacement, but he has been banished to the stands owing to his ongoing contract row with the club.
Meanwhile, the French champions will be coming up against a relatively in-form United side who have collected seven wins in all competitions since the departure of Jose Mourinho in December.
Earlier, Continentour.com.ng reported that PSG striker Kylian Mbappe says he is happy at the French club after scoring impressive hat-trick against Guingamp on Saturday, January 19, in Ligue 1 encounter.
Since he moved to PSG, the 2018 World Cup winner has been a target for European champions Real Madrid with reports suggesting that Los Blancos are ready to sign him this summer.
